More comments on rum & sailing movies
A couple more comments to call out. One from anon on top sailing movies suggesting Wind. I overlooked Wind for the exact reason anon pegged (weak storyline) but he's right, the racing footage was outstanding. Another from kelpcowboy on favorite rums. He says the "extra old" from Mount Gay is terrific and touts the smoothness of Lamb's Navy Rum. He says the stangest rum he has ever run into is Bundaberg (sp?) from Australia. Anyone vouch for that one? Thanks guys for commenting!

Lamb's Rum doesn't make the finals in my estimation.
Bundaberg is made in Northern Queensland. It comes in various levels, The 'usual' stuff is rather raw for my taste, m,ore like screech but they also make a 'Gold' level which is aged in the keg for many years (like Scotch). I got a couple of bottles given to me by an Oz Etchells sailor. It was sssmooooth, with a fruity taste like a Demarara, or some of the Dominican rums.
Closest thing available in NA would be Myers Planters Punch or some of the older lighter Appleton rums.
Not available in Ontario but a welcome pickup when I make to Premier Liquor in Buffalo, is Ron Anejo Anniversario, which comes in a round bottle in a leather casing. Its has slightly more bite than Myers Planters Punch and is slightlty less fruity. Like the Bundaberg, it is cask aged for at least 12 years. I rate it the best generally available dark rum you can find.
After drinking these rums, if they can only offer me Bacardi, I ask for vodka!

dated an Austrian girl for a while and she had tons (now I know why) of Austrian rum laying around. Being a broke student we consumed it by the gallon but it was barely a step above paint thinner, just without the smooth after taste. Blech
