Brilliant move by someone to broadcast in the middle of Saturday afternoon on a summer weekend in the middle of the sailing season. I for one will be out sailing, not watching it.

Thank gawd for the DVR.

I hope you immediately delete Jordan's post. That kind of pollution we don't want on our blogs.

Meanwhile, I didn't have an easy way to record the CBS broadcast -- if I'd known enough ahead of time, I could have set my VCR in Albuquerque to record the event, or I could have left my satellite box turned on at Five O'Clock Somewhere and set the video recorder there to make the recording.

But I didn't have enough advance notice to do either of those things. I guess it's like so many other things related to sailing nowadays -- you have to have a lot of money to get into the sport, even just as a spectator. The local cable provider charges nearly $100 a month just for basic service, and we can't afford that.

The satellite service we get at the vacation place is about a third of what in-city cable would cost. But it involves having a separate tuner box, so if I want to record something, I have to leave the tuner turned on. Yeah, the satellite company will make the whole process easier by giving us a digital video recorder, but that costs more, unless we sign on to a contract for two years of continuing service, and we're not willing to make that kind of commitment, given how both cable and satellite companies have treated us in the past.

The easiest thing would have been if I had learned of the broadcast soon enough that I could have set the video recorder to tape the broadcast straight off the air.

But I guess I'm a Luddite, or a Neanderthal, or some other such sub-human, for wanting a solution that doesn't require cutting-edge technology.

Hi Carol Anne - yes I deleted it as soon as I read it. As for your DVTR woes...have no fear. They are building TV's that have the pause, rewind, record features. Of course that doesn't help you now but if you wait I bet they will issue a highlights reel for the 2007 AC on DVD...or possibly replay the CBS special. Cheers!
